I am no Suzy Homemaker, but I yearn to be; neither am I Claire Huxtable. I also feel like bringing my husband his plate of food at night like my grandmother, every now and then. Yet, I am no traditional wife/mother. Ever so often I feel like I want to cook dinner every night and bake breads for days. Hell, since I am raising a crew; I want to be at every game where my son plays band, and at every PTA meeting. But how is any of this possible. No matter how many times I ponder or meditate on the subject, I realize that all of that is no longer possible. I just can't work (even though it is part-time), go to school full-time (this year feels so much better now that I am working part-time), help children with projects and homework, hear their long drawn out stories of the day, take kids to the bus stop, pick them up when they have after-school special activities....WAIT, that is what I am doing. Yet, I don't consider myself to be traditional.
Maybe there ought to be a new term and society to join; like The Modern Traditional Wives Club, because no matter how many times I get that old timey yearning to have dinner on the table by 6, it ain't happening. There is just no way we can get everything done (I just remembered the laundry) like those back in the day women.
The moral of this post is to tell women just like me that we are doing a great job, even though we are not doing it the old-school way. I know I have to remind myself that I am only human and a product of this modern day society, so a lot of new expectations have been added and there is no room nor time to keep all of the old ones.
